Mid-February 2021 Reading Update

Well, it’s the middle of February and instead of being in the middle of the Frederick Douglas biography, I’m about 1/7th of the way through that and have started 3 other books. Needless to say unless there is a miracle of sorts, I probably won’t finish the Douglass book this month, but I’ll have started a finished a few others, so that’s okay with me!

I often set very high goals for myself in terms of things that I can accomplish. I’d say most of the time I’m downright unrealistic about what I can accomplish in a month, but nevertheless we persist!

On the first of each month I’ll post a reading recap for the previous month, so you can look forward to that to see what I actually get done.

Black History Month Book Stack

It’s Black History Month and the first of February so, naturally, I am starting a new set of books. I’ll write a January book wrap-up, but I wanted to go ahead and share my book reading plans for Black History Month.

For February and for the rest of the year, I’m committing myself to always be reading at least one book by a Black author or a book about a Black person. I did this last year without much intention, so I thought it would just be easy for me to just continue doing that.

I’m planning to finish one book this month and that is Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, by David W. Blight. It’s 800 pages and since the average is about 250 pages I’m going to focus on this. I got a signed copy during a Black Friday sale, and it is a beautiful book.

Other things will catch my interest I’m sure, and I’m skimming and listening to some random things, but my goal for the month is to finish this book.

Have you read it? I’m really enjoying it so far.

Currently Reading: January 2021

I wouldn’t say that I’ve found more time to read over the last year, but more that I’ve decided to put some energy and focus into it. I love reading and without any sort of tangible goal, was able to read an amount of books that I was happy with considering the circumstances of the world.

I have a goal number that I’m hoping to reach this year which I’ll share in a separate blog later this week, but for now I’m going to quickly update you on what I’ve read so far this year and what I’m currently reading.

Currently Reading

  • Kindred by Octavia E. Butler

  • The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life by Twyla Tharp

  • Time Off: A Practical Guide to Building Your Rest Ethic and Finding Success Without the Stress by John Fitch and Max Frenzel

  • Leonardo Da Vinci by Walter Isaacson

Finished in January

  • Miles Morales: Spider-Man

  • What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli

I have some special books that I want to read in February so I won’t be starting any other books this month, just finishing up what I’ve started so far. More updates to come!
